Hi, I’m Amber Tai — a business and data journalist who loves finding the stories hidden in numbers.

I cover the intersection of finance, policy, and social trends, using data analysis and original reporting to surface insights that might otherwise stay buried. Whether it’s digging into public records, scraping datasets, or building graphics, I enjoy the challenge of making complex information clear, accessible, and sometimes even a little fun.

Before moving to Boston, I worked as a managing editor and TV reporter in Taiwan, where I launched a financial magazine, anchored daily business news, and produced investigative and feature stories. I’m now a graduate of Boston University’s Journalism master’s program, where I expanded my skills in data analysis, R, SQL, and data visualization tools like Datawrapper and Tableau.

You can find my work in places like the Associated Press, Boston Business Journal, and The New Bedford Light — covering everything from pension funds to rideshare unions to the doggiest neighborhoods in New York City.

Outside of reporting, I love chasing down quirky datasets, brainstorming story ideas, or experimenting with new ways to blend data and storytelling. ✍🏼✍🏼✍🏼
